Amyloid Neuroimaging and Genetics Initiative

ANGI is an add-on study for people who have participated in the IDEAS (Imaging Dementia—Evidence For Amyloid Scanning) Study. The goal of the ANGI study is to pair the clinical information and brain imaging data collected in the IDEAS-Study, or other related studies, with DNA obtained from a saliva sample. ANGI is a study that you can participate in without leaving your home, at no cost to you. All participation is done by phone and mail, or, if you prefer, information about the study can also be accessed online.

Subjects who express interest in ANGI, will be asked to read and sign an Informed Consent form, share their contact and demographic information, and provide a saliva sample. A saliva collection kit will be mailed directly to you. Saliva samples will be returned to the National Centralized Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias at Indiana University, using prepaid shipping materials. DNA will be extracted from your saliva samples and stored for future research use.

DNA is the genetic material in our body which is made up of a series of genes. Genes are the unit of our DNA that determine things such as eye color, hair color, and other more complex physical characteristics or traits. The information and DNA samples that are collected as part of ANGI will be used to help scientists identify genetic factors contributing to cognitive impairment, dementia, and other neurological disorders.

ANGI presents a unique and extraordinary scientific opportunity for new discoveries relating to brain imaging, clinical information, and genetic findings that can have a major impact on dementia care. It is hoped that the research made possible by ANGI will ultimately lead to the development of new therapies that will slow or prevent cognitive impairment and dementia.
